Thursday people were able to put down a $1,000 refundable deposit.
There were 180,000 orders in the first 24 hours.
CEO Elon Musk tweeted today that there were 276,000 orders for the Model 3 by the end of Saturday.
It seats 5 adults.
It has 2 trunks, one in the front seat and one in the back seat.
The cost is $35,000.
But the average cost with extra options is $42,000.
That’s a potential $11.5 billion in sales for the Model 3.
But the $1,000 deposit is fully refundable. How many will end up buying the car when it’s produced and available for delivery?
Delivery is expected for late 2017. But it could be 2018 before people actually get their Model 3.
Some stores had lines of 500 to 800 people. Some people waited 2-3 hours to reserve the Model 3.
They will definitely be buying the car when the time comes.
And many already own a Roadster or a Model S or both.
They will definitely be buying the car.
The car goes from 0-60 miles per hour in 6 seconds.
It goes 215 miles on a single charge.
Elon Musk said they will double their Supercharging stations to 7,2000 by the end of 2017.
The launch and the numbers of orders surpassed everyone’s expectations.
As of now, they’ve booked $276,000 in orders from the deposits.
There is a $7,5000 Federal Tax Credit on electric cars. But once Tesla sells more than 200,000 EVs, that credit is gone.
Tesla is on track to sell 200,000 EVs even before their first Model 3 is delivered.
