Today we are talking about Amazon.

Yesterday Amazon started countdown deals on their site

which will run through July 11th

Then on July 12th will be Amazon’s 2nd Prime Day

Last year Amazon had their 1st ever Prime Day

It was to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary

They were not sure Prime Day would become an annual event

It drove about $375 to $400 million last year

After those numbers, Amazon decided to make it an annual event

Projections are that Amazon could double last year’s numbers

And drive $800 million in sales in one day

For comparison’s sake, people look to China’s Singles Day

It started in China in the 1990s by college students

as sort of an anti-Valentine’s Day holiday

Alibaba started commercializing it in 2009

It falls on November 11th

And last year, Alibaba sold over $14 billion in merchandise

Which is more than Black Friday AND Cyber Monday generated in the U.S.

On its 1st Prime Day last year

Prime members ordered more than 34 million items

Look for a spike in this number this year

Since Amazon has doubled the number of deals AND sellers for Prime Day 2016

It promises over 100,000 deals

in 10 different countries

On June 30th, Amazon started a contest

which ends on Prime Day

12 lucky winners

will win a musical experience

For example, if you listen to a playlist of Carrie Underwood on Amazon Music

you could win a trip for 2 to see Carrie in concert in Nashville

plus a meet & greet with Carrie Underwood!

Some other artists include

Flo Rida

Norah Jones

Blink 182

The Lumineers

and more!

Amazon is scheduled to report earnings July 25th

In the past four quarters

It’s had 3 huge beats

And one big miss

We think another big beat is in store for Amazon
